The Federation of Antenatal Educators (FEDANT) is the UK registering body for antenatal teachers and providers of antenatal education.
Under current UK legislation there is no requirement for any teacher of antenatal education to hold any qualifications or insurance.
In years gone by the antenatal classes which were available to parents were provided by NHS based Midwives and Health visitors.
With the introduction of the DipHE in Antenatal Education and the development over the last fifteen years of private antenatal and midwifery services, the role of the Antenatal Teacher has become recognised as a health profession in its own right.
Unlike most other health professionals there was no registering or regulatory body for Antenatal Teachers. Until FEDANT.
The primary aim of the Federation of Antenatal Educators is to act as a registering body as the first stage in the development of a regulatory process.
FEDANT works closely with professional bodies, Charities, Nursing Councils and Government Regulatory bodies to offer a Registration Service for Qualified Antenatal Educators. FEDANT is a non-profit body and services to parents are free of charge.
