Registrant Guidance – Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Registrant Guidance

Introduction

Renewal Requirements

All registrants must complete a minimum of 20 CPD points/hours per year to maintain registration. This ensures all FEDANT Registrants continue their professional development and uphold high standards of practice.

Flexible CPD Scheme

FEDANT’s CPD scheme allows registrants to earn CPD points through a variety of activities, including workshops, home study, research, and mentorship, providing a structured yet adaptable framework that accommodates different learning styles and professional commitments.

Registrants are encouraged to engage in a diverse range of CPD activities, which are outlined in this handbook.

Who Must Undertake CPD?

All registrants of FEDANT, including those residing outside of the UK, are required to complete CPD annually as a condition of registration.

What is CPD?

CPD encompasses various learning activities designed to develop professional skills, maintain technical competence, and ensure safe, effective teaching. Activities may include:

  • Attending professional training
  • Enhancing workplace effectiveness
  • Mentoring or supporting colleagues
  • Adapting to evolving professional responsibilities
  • Applying new knowledge for the benefit of clients

Where and How to Record CPD Points

Registrants are required to maintain a comprehensive CPD portfolio documenting all completed CPD activities. This portfolio should be kept up to date and include the required FEDANT CPD reporting forms, detailing the date, type of activity, learning outcomes, and application of learning. If selected for CPD Review, the Registrant is required to provide their CPD Record using the FEDANT CPD Record Sheet. Acceptable evidence may include certificates, reflective logs, screenshots, attendance records, or supervisor statements.

Guidance on Meeting CPD Criteria

To comply with FEDANT standards, registrants must maintain accurate records of CPD activities. A structured CPD portfolio should include:

  • Certificates of event attendance (physical or virtual)
  • Reflections on readings or courses attended (physical or virtual)
  • Articles or research contributions
  • Documentation of mentorship or community engagement

Section 4: Details of CPD Activities

Valid CPD activities include:

  • Formal Study: Attending workshops, courses, or conferences.
  • Community Engagement: Volunteering, leading seminars, or supporting new parents.
  • Independent Study: Reading journals, conducting research, or writing articles.
  • Mentoring: Supervising or mentoring activities.

FEDANT provides CPD reporting templates to assist in tracking activities effectively.

Section 5: CPD Value Allocation Table

By completing 20 CPD points per year, Registrants ensure continuous professional growth and maintain high standards of service for expectant parents. A structured, well documented CPD plan supports career development and enhances professional credibility.
