Our Purpose
To protect and inform the public by promoting high standards of education, ethical conduct and professional practice across the antenatal and postnatal sector.
FEDANT maintains an independent professional registration structure for those working in the antenatal and postnatal sector, including Antenatal Educators, Breastfeeding Counsellors, Infant Feeding Practitioners, Doulas, Postnatal Practitioners, Complementary Therapy Practitioners and Relative Sector Practitioners.
We help parents and families identify appropriately qualified and, where applicable, insured professionals, understand the category or categories for which each registrant has been approved, and raise concerns where professional standards may not have been met.
Our Mission
FEDANT’s mission is to maintain a trusted and accessible National Register, establish clear professional and education standards, and support safe, competent and ethical practice. We aim to provide reassurance that registrants have met the applicable entry requirements and remain accountable to the standards expected throughout their registration.
Our professional registration structure also provides a clear point of reference for parents, professionals, education providers, stakeholder organisations and policymakers when considering good practice within the sector.
Our Vision
We want every parent and family seeking antenatal or postnatal education and support to be able to make an informed choice and check the standing and approved register category of the professional they engage.
We seek a sector in which professional competence, honest representation, appropriate insurance where applicable, continuing learning, collaboration and respect for individual choice are recognised as essential foundations of safe practice.
Our Core Aims
Professional Standards
Set, maintain and review common standards for professional conduct, competence and practice.
National Registration
Maintain a single, searchable National Register that clearly shows each registrant’s approved category or categories.
Education Quality
Define core education requirements and assess relevant courses and activities through the applicable National Course Accreditation and Verification (NCAV), National Relative Sector Award (NRSA) and CPD accreditation processes.
Continuing Development
Require registrants to keep their knowledge and skills current through meaningful Continuing Professional Development.
Evidence and Learning
Encourage research, reflection and the responsible use of current evidence to improve education and professional practice.
Public Protection and Accountability
Maintain effective working practices, ethical expectations and procedures for considering complaints and serious concerns.

How We Deliver Our Mission
Assess
We consider applications against the entry requirements for the relevant professional category.
Register
We publish approved categories on the FEDANT National Register so the public can check them.
Maintain
We require annual renewal, suitable insurance where applicable and ongoing professional development.
Respond
We consider complaints and serious concerns under the relevant FEDANT procedures.
