Who Can Apply?
What is a Relative Sector Award?
A Relative Sector Award is a professional or vocational qualification relating to pregnancy, birth, the postnatal period, infancy or early parenthood that does not fall specifically within an established FEDANT registration category, such as Antenatal Educator, Breastfeeding Counsellor/Infant Feeding Practitioner, Doula, Postnatal Practitioner or Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Relative Sector Awards are where the holder provides a defined specialist service within the antenatal or postnatal sector.
Additional registration categories may be requested during your application where you hold the appropriate qualifications.
Applicants must provide evidence of:
Qualification Evidence
A valid profession entry qualification relevant to the exact register category requested, issued by a reputable awarding body or training provider. Additional evidence of pregnancy, infant or postnatal specific training may be required where relevant to the activity.
Professional Insurance
Suitable Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance covering the category and activities requested, where insurance is applicable. This may be your own policy or FEDANT Block Scheme Insurance, where the activity and applicant are eligible.
Professional Commitment
An undertaking to abide by the FEDANT Code of Ethics and Practice, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, work within the limits of your qualifications and competence, and uphold the standards expected of a FEDANT Registrant.
Your Approved Scope Matters
Registration applies only to the category or categories supported by the evidence accepted by FEDANT. Holding another qualification or completing CPD does not automatically extend your approved scope of registration.

What Professional Registration Provides
Professional Recognition
- Professional credibility through review of the qualification and supporting evidence relevant to your approved category.
- A Certificate of Registration and annual Registration Card.
- Sanctioned use of the FEDANT logo and lettering on publicity materials, subject to FEDANT’s current logo use requirements.
Public Register Listing
- A reputable route through which clients can find a registered professional working in the relevant antenatal or postnatal sector.
- A listing on the publicly searchable FEDANT National Register.
- Your email address and website may be linked from your National Register entry.
- Clear publication of your approved category or categories and qualifications.
Insurance and Professional Support
- Access to Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance at preferential rates where the applicant and professional activity are eligible.
- Representation to Government and other healthcare regulatory bodies.
- Support through FEDANT’s national public awareness activity.
Continuing Professional Development
- Regular information about approved CPD training providers and events.
- Online access to a library of information, articles and research materials without download limits.
- Guidance to help Registrants recognise, record and reflect on the professional development activities they may already be completing.
Professional Insurance
Appropriate professional insurance is required for admission to the FEDANT National Register. You may use suitable insurance from another provider or, where eligible, choose to apply for FEDANT Block Scheme Insurance.
Using Your Own Insurance
Provide evidence of a current policy covering you with Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance for the exact category or categories for which registration is requested.
FEDANT Block Scheme Insurance
Eligible applicants may apply for access to the reduced rate FEDANT Block Scheme. Insurance application details are supplied after the initial registration review.
Annual Registration and Insurance Renewals
Registration and insurance are renewed separately each year. FEDANT National Registration is renewed through FEDANT, while FEDANT Block Scheme Insurance is renewed directly with the insurance provider.
Important: If your FEDANT National Registration lapses, your FEDANT Block Scheme Insurance will be in breach of the terms of provision. It will become invalid and will not provide cover.
Before You Apply
Identify the Exact Category
Relative Sector is an umbrella registration route and does not appear as a separate checkbox on the application form. Under Category Entry, select the exact professional activity or activities for which you are applying.
Prepare Your Evidence
Have your qualification, course details and any additional training evidence ready. Where insurance applies, provide your policy details unless you intend to request the FEDANT Block Scheme and may be eligible.
Check Your Scope
Make sure that the activity is within your training, competence and insurance and that you understand the FEDANT Code of Ethics and Practice.
Complete the Application
Enter your information accurately and respond promptly if FEDANT requests clarification or further evidence.
Registration Fee and Confirmation
Annual Registration

Payable to FEDANT.
Application Outcome
Confirmation of your registration status and approved category or categories will be sent to the email address entered on your application. If it does not arrive, check your spam and junk folders before contacting FEDANT.
